Airspan will deploy 4G network in Central African Republic (CAR) in a project that will bring Internet connection to the users in the Bangui, the country’s capital.
Airspan, a global provider of broadband wireless announced Wednesday it has been chosen by Millenium, a new Internet Service Provider, to deploy the 4G networks.
Founded in April 2011, Millenium is the first mobile broadband operator in CAR focused on providing reliable and affordable high-speed Internet access to individuals and businesses.
A statement from the company indicated the initial deployment will provide 4G mobile data services to 1,000 with plan to expand service to 10,000 consumer and corporate users in the city.
Souleymane Diallo, Founder and CEO of Millenium Telecom said the new initiative with Airspan’s Air4G platform, will enable Millenium to provide the best quality network and offer unique, cost-effective, data services to the population of CAR.
Diallo said their objective is to cover the whole capital city, Bangui, with mobile WiMAX and Wi-Fi hotspots in the first phase launch and expand into other parts of the country by the end of 2012.
The city of Bangui has a population of just under 600,000 people. The Internet penetration in the CAR is estimated to be about 2 percent of the population.
Millenium Telecom was founded by Souleymane Diallo, who himself is a seasoned telecom professional with over 15 years’ experience.
