Newly launched location-based yoga Apple app OM Finder secured its place as the top downloaded app in Canadian Apple app stores just three days after its launch.
Covering more than 7,000 locations in 63 countries, the app supplies the location of and directions to nearby yoga classes.
Within the first three days of its release on Thursday, April 11, OM Finder hit 18,000 downloads.
The app was developed by Lululemon, a yoga wear company.
Nancy Richardson, vice president of digital and brand strategy at Lululemon, said: “The vision was to get more people on planet earth doing yoga.”
This put the Vancouver-developed app in the top position in the Canadian Apple app store under the Health and Fitness category and third on the most downloaded list in the United States.
Richardson believes personal promotion is key by connecting on local level.
“Our digital strategy is people-first. Our goal is to build authentic relationships with communities,” she told Reuters.
Yoga class searches can be filtered by type and time to find the best fit, and features more than 30,000 yoga instructor profiles with their upcoming session schedules.
Rachel Acheson, vice president of brand and community at Lululemon, believes finding the correct teacher is essential to committing to the exercising activity.
Although there are an estimated active 20,000 yoga-doers worldwide, 20 per cent give up annually, Acheson explained.
App invitations are simple through sharing via social media networks Twitter, Facebook or by email.
