A nonprofit has pledged to use mobile technology to provide a voice to Ghanaians in a bid to improve governance as well as link the citizens and policy makers.
VOTO Ghana, the non-government organization, has developed mobile phone technology that will facilitate feedback between grassroots citizen and decision makers, reported Ghana Business News.
Louis Dorval, The Founder of VOTO Ghana said the technology will collect the views of Ghanaians from across the country through their mobile phones, provide compensation for their voice via phone credit, verify the validity of their responses through cross-checking, and provide visually compelling results to our distribution partners in the popular news media.
VOTO Ghana will create a panel of 10,000 Ghanaians it is set to poll regularly as well as allow to accumulate an in-depth profile of the panelist.
VOTO Ghana said this would replace random polling and easily identify the trends associated with specific demographic groups.
During the next general election VOTO Ghana said it would collaborate with Penplusbytes to deploy the technology through a polling system with poll questions based on the general concerns of the electorates and also promises made in political parties’ manifestoes.
VOTO Ghana said the poll result would be made available to the press to help the media focus on issue-based coverage.
The organisation also expects the technology would help civil society organisations strengthen their advocacy work to ensure the country goes through peaceful elections, while at the same time upholding the tenets of democracy.
The first VOTO survey is expected to be distributed by next week. The results would be available within a fortnight.
