UNDP, World Bank and OPEC to create Arab Development Portal

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) have signed an agreement to form the Arab Development Portal.

The portal, which will include North African countries, will host information and data about 22 Arab countries. The up to date information will be available for the participating governments and will be used as a data gathering tool to enhance development in the region.

The portal will also have blogs, discussion spaces, polling opportunities and platforms for real-time collaboration.

“The target audience is not only policymakers but also private sector investors, analysts, development agencies and non-governmental organisations who make critical contributions to development policy,” UNDP said.

“Progress towards sustainable human development is essential if the Arab region is to achieve the broader peace, security and inclusion that people and governments in the region are striving for,” Sima Bahous, who heads UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Arab States, said.
