South African telecommunications operator Telkom has made free, unlimited Wi-Fi access available to Telkom Mobile subscribers to cater for data-hunting customers on selected plans.
HumanIPO reported earlier this week on Telkom Mobile’s new number range.
Attila Vitai, managing director at Telkom Mobile, said: “Telkom Mobile is geared to meet the demands of the data hungry consumer.
“Providing free Wi-Fi to our subscribers is just another way of us fulfilling this commitment.”
This service will be available to subscribers on the Telkom Mobile SmartPlan, SmartSaver, SmartInternet, Promo and SmartInternet Saver plans.
Subscribers making use of other Telkom internet options will also be able to buy Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi bundles at ZAR25 (US$2.70) for 30 minutes and ZAR40 (US$4.39) for 60 minutes.
Bundles can be purchased via the *180# dial code or Self Service Portal online.
Customers are encouraged to first check the area coverage as supplied on the website before buying bundles.
With more than 400 secure Wi-Fi spots centred around the metropolitan areas countrywide, Telkom Mobile is also rolling out an extensive network of Wi-Fi spots, Vitai announced.
