Mi-Pay, a Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) certified leader in mobile payments solutions, has launched a Facebook app that will allow customers to top-up their mobile phone accounts directly from Facebook.
This app is accessible via a mobile operator’s Facebook page making it available to anyone visiting the social networking site’s page.
A customer therefore does not need to sign into Facebook, neither does he need to have an account with the site to use the top-up service, Mi-Pay says.
Allan Jakobsen, Mi-Pay’s CEO said: “Social Media and Facebook in particular is a powerful communication and advertising platform. With more than 800 million people around the world using Facebook, mobile operators have an excellent opportunity to be where their customers are and to actively use this platform as a channel to increase revenues and bottom line.”
Previous research has shown that mobile operators can experience up to 20 percent increase in top-up transaction volumes by utilizing Facebook as another channel, and by opening up and marketing the channel for their customers to top-up their pre-paid accounts.
Customers of a mobile operator partnering with Mi-Pay can enter their credit card information into the secure Facebook app to top up their accounts. Additional features are offered to customers signed into Facebook. The features include posting a message on the customer’s timeline, and allowing the customers to share the App with their Facebook Friends.
Facebook’s statistics show that 50 percent of its 800 million users visit the site every day. An app such as Mi-Pay will give customers much more visibility of a pre-paid top-up service compared to other channels.
