Posterous has warned users to back up their Spaces by April 30, the date on which the site and its mobile apps will be turned off.
HumanIPO reported in February that Posterous, which launched in 2008 and was bought by Twitter in March 2012, would be shutting down to “focus 100% of our efforts on Twitter”.
In an email to users over the weekend, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Sachin Agarwal warned Posterous Spaces, aimed at helping users share content easier, would be switched off from April 30 and users would be unable to view or edit content.
If you want to move your site to another service, WordPress and Squarespace offer importers that can move all of your content over to either service,” Agarwal said. “Just remember: you need to back up your Spaces by April 30.”
Users can download all of their Posterous Spaces, including photos, videos and documents, by visiting http://posterous.com/#backup, clicking “Request Backup” next to their Space name and returning to the original page to download a .zip file.
Agarwal thanked users to the site for helping Posterous reach its current level of popularity.
“We’d like to thank the millions of Posterous users who have supported us on our incredible journey,” he said. “We hope to provide you with as easy a transition as possible, and look forward to seeing you on Twitter. Thank you.”
