Mobile app enterprise Evernote is to enter the mobile message service sphere following a collaboration with Kakao Talk.
The cross-continental startup partnership will connect South Korean Kakao’s 90 million users with memory sharing services from United States-based Evernote.
HumanIPO reported in March on Evernote’s South African arrival.
Currently 1.5 million users strong in South Korea, Evernote is hoping to elevate its Asian presence as Kakao Talk is used by 95 per cent of smartphone users in the country.
Evernote will activate an in-chat service window on Kakao Talk which can be activated with a side wipe during a chat.
Despite few details available on the release at present, iOS and Android launches are expected,The Next Web reported.
Phil Libin, chief executive officer at Evernote, said: “There’s a big demand for improving our sharing and collaboration capabilities, and we’re always looking for the most innovative ways to do that.”
Libin revealed Evernote will be moving away from its “traditionally… introverted” products, enabling easier memory sharing and saving via Kakao Talk.
He added: “There is a lot we can learn about sharing and communication by working with Kakao.”
Without announcing a rollout date, the Evernote team confirmed its plans to go live in South Korea as the first implementation is under development.
The memory collection app is also keen to expand into other Asian countries where Kakao is already established, such as Taiwan, China and Japan.
