Apple turning to Taiwan for APs

Apple will rely solely on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) for its application processors (APs) by 2014 as they look to reduce reliance on Samsung Electronics.

DigiTimes is reporting Apple will contract TSMC for manufacturing of the APs for its 2014 model of the iPhone, but will remain loyal to South Korean Samsung for its next iPhone release set for the second half of this year.

TSMC is reportedly accelerating its factory expansion as a result of the increased demand from Apple.

Samsung is currently the “undisputed leader”, in iPhone sales, despite Apple hitting a record high of sales in the first quarter of 2013, recording a 6.6 per cent year on year growth.
