Tech startup pitches dominated the startup initiative Start Up Africa event as the three day programme kicked off at the Bandwidth Barn in Woodstock this morning (Thursday).
The event kicked off with 60 second pitches where more than fifty entrepreneurs presented ideas to the audience.
Through networking sessions startups are encouraged to collaborate to achieve interactive business building and work on enhanced solutions from original to more integrated ideas.
“Everybody thinks his or her idea is original, but I assure you every idea out there has been thought of so it’s just about how you are going to be different,” Jarrod Hermer, startup veteran and technology evangelist at Microsoft said at the event opening.
With tech startups dominating the pitching scene, ideas presented included the development of a bamboo tablet, a red tape-cutting app, a lie-busting web solution, as well as a digital therapy businesses.
Sponsored by the Royal Danish Embassy in South Africa and endorsed by Africa 2.0, the initiative originated from the initial StartupWeekend event.
Africa 2.0 focuses on the leapfrogging of African development by “jumping the queue” in taking a direct approach through mindset and infrastructure changes.
Entrepreneurs will benefit from the open event until Saturday, May 11, when the finalist will be judged and the winners announced at the Westin Hotel in Cape Town.
HumanIPO reported recently on other startup events such as the 88mph Demo Day in April, followed by the Seed Engine Demo Day last week.
