Japanese printing and information technology firm Epson has opened its East African office in Nairobi.
Epson East Africa’s regional manager Mukesh Bector said the company settled on Nairobi as the Kenyan capital is a growing business hub and plays host to local and international organisations and its stability economically and politically is also conducive.
Espon Africa has for long been headquartered in South Africa. The Nairobi office will act as Epson’s business support centre for the regions clients, he says.
“Kenya has been a trendsetter in the information technology industry being the largest market in East Africa, and it is for these reasons we opted to establish our regional office here,” Bector said.
Epson wants to target the regions education and the banking sector with its cheque truncation, scanner solutions, LCD projectors and smart boards.
This would help drive the sales of its flagship products in Eastern Africa.
“The stable economic and political atmosphere is conducive for growth and the country is home to many embassies and foreign missions in the region,” he added.
Nairobi has for a long time been an attraction to global firms and the technology sector is also a source of attraction. Recently, LG set up its regional liaison office in Kenya while Samsung and HP set up bases in 2003 and 2005 respectively.
