Kenya has the potential to make great strides in innovation if it can tackle problems holding the country back, according to Evans Baiya, an innovation strategist at Evastrategists.
Baiya told the second National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation Week, held at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, the enemies of innovation in Kenya included a climate of fear, whereby people are afraid to take risks, politics, with little interaction between stakeholders and innovators, and people not sharing the knowledge they have.
He added that myopia was another hindrance, which could be turned around if stakeholders invested heavily in research.
“Our policy makers have to understand that we are not just investing for the short term but for the long term,” Baiya said.
