Steve Onu, the President of the Nigeria Institute of Town Planners (NITP), has cautioned against the promiscuous construction of telecommunication masts in Nigerian cities, as they pose a risk to lives and the environment.
According to the Daily Trust, Onu made his statement in Calabar where Efiok Cobham, the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, laid foundations for their office.
Onu urged the relevant agencies in the government to take necessary action before the situation worsens.
He did however praise the government for maintaining the capital Abuja as the cleanest city in the country.
Cobham commented however that some areas in the city are not up to standards because of poor planning.
