Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has regained his world’s richest person title for the first time since 2007, overtaking Mexican telecoms billionaire Carlos Slim.
Bloomberg reported yesterday a 16 per cent in Gates’ fortune to US$72.7 billion allowed him to overtake Slim, whose company America Movil SAB dropped 14 per cent this year after the Mexican Congress passed a bill that could destroy his market dominance.
While Slim saw more than US$3 billion knocked off his personal worth, Gates’ net worth has been boosted in recent weeks by a rally on Wall Street, which included a five-year high on Thursday. His personal fortune has increased by around US$10 billion.
