The Ugandan government is striving to utilise all opportunities to meet the high demand for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) in Africa, according to a senior minister.
The Independent reports Ruhakana Rugunda, senior minister for information and communication technologies, told a BPO training event at the Uganda Institute of Information and Communication Technology (UICT) the government was keen on using all the necessary skills in order to exploit opportunities in ICT.
During the induction, Egyptian Information Technology Institute experts conducted training of 12 participants in BPO.
“We are ready to train more youth in this sector so we can fight the unemployment in this country,” said Rugunda, adding that companies operating under BPO need to have substantial limits on work schedules and operation guidelines to manage business.
“This cannot be met without dedicated top-tier infrastructure, skilled human resource and support from the government and the private sector,” he said.
The Uganda Information Communication Technology (UICT) aims to produce qualified individuals for installing, designing, assembling and managing computer equipment and computer systems.
It trains technicians to obtain expertise in the field of ICT to help them solve technical issues and secure employment opportunities.
