Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Ghana should take ownership of online tools to speed up business growth, according to Google.
Despite investment in Ghanaian internet structure, local businesses still struggle to engage online, Estelle Akrofio-Sowah, country manager at Google Ghana, pointed out during the Google Ghana Week in Accra.
“We need to ensure we not only have the right policies but that people are really selling the rights standards,” Akrofio-Sowah said, adding the road of internet tools “is leading you nowhere” if it is not driven on.
Focused on internet developers, business groups and bloggers, the Google Ghana Week offered workshops and training sessions to enhance understanding ICT tool use for innovation.
Apart from education, the week also introduced technical products to attendees aimed at innovation.
Chukwu Emeka Afigbo, outreach manager at Google for Sub-Saharan Africa, said: “We only have to deepen the interaction and meet more frequently to share ideas that will enable us to create quality products for smarter solutions,” Ghana News Agency reported.
HumanIPO reported earlier this week on the Internet Society workshop, also held in Accra.
