“Facebook phone” launch delayed in Europe

HTC has delayed the European launch of the “Facebook phone” – the HTC First – following poor sales and customer feedback in the United States.

The phone, which runs Facebook Home, was first announced in April and due to arrive in stores this summer. It replaces the phone’s homescreen with Facebook feeds and chat options.

The handset has been heavily discounted in the United States, and dropped by AT&T, the biggest mobile network in the country.

“While many people love it, we’ve heard a lot of great feedback about how to make Home substantially better. As a result we’re focusing the next few months on adding customisation features that address the feedback we received,” Facebook said in a statement.

Ex-HTC product strategy manager Eric Lin used his Twitter handle to ask other HTC employees to quit, adding they would end up being much happier. The company has seen a raft of high profile departures recently.

To all my friends still at @htc – just quit. leave now. it’s tough to do, but you’ll be so much happier, I swear.
