A matatu (minibus taxi) driver in Kenya has installed a Wi-Fi network to attract more commuters, providing free internet as well as sockets to charge devices.
Vincent Swale Sakura, told Citizen TV the installation of Wi-Fi was a step forward to providing quality service to his customers.
The vehicle also has sockets for charging various devices.
“I have sockets for charging phones and laptops. In case your laptop or smartphone is running out of power, have no worry take your charger and plug in to continue with your service,” Sakura said.
People will utilise the time they spend travelling to work or complete other tasks, improving productivity. Sakura added the system also had safety advantages.
“Wi-Fi ensures your gadgets are in safe custody. You have to hold it in your hands as you surf and not like the case where you keep them inside your pockets and might drop them unaware.”
Citizen reports Sakura is planning to install CCTV on the matatu to stop car hijacking and to monitor operations.
“I am thinking of installing CCTV in the matatu to curb car hijackers and pickpockets, and also to monitor the routes matatu will be operating in,” he said.
