Afrinolly hits more than 2.5 million downloads

Afrinolly, a multi-platform app that allows users to watch African content and receive the latest news and gossip on celebrities, has recorded more than 2.5 million downloads within 14 months of its introduction.

FansConnectOnline (FCO), developers of the app, have described the feat as a confirmation of the potential of African app developers.

In an exclusive interview with HumanIPO, Bobola Oniwura, FCO’s creative intelligence analyst, said the figures also confirms the growth in Africa’s smartphone market, especially in Nigeria.

Oniwura said: “For us as a company this means that Africa’s smartphone market is rapidly growing, Nigeria’s most especially and we are excited to see that the culture of downloading and usage of apps is gaining ground here.

“This rapid growth in user base within the last 14 months only goes to show what is possible for app developers in Africa building locally relevant applications.”

He however noted the increase in the number of users would present the company with the challenge of managing and responding to users’ feedbacks.

He said: “The standard challenges of managing and responding to users’ feedback and questions which sometimes leads to iterations in the form of app updates like we had recently.”

With new devices being launched frequently, he noted that the company is also faced with the challenge of making the app available on the various operating systems as soon as possible.

“Satisfying users by making Afrinolly available on as many operating systems as possible, quickly enough, is also one of the challenges we are faced with,” Oniwura concluded.
