The annual South African road race Comrades Marathon will be supported by mapIT and a Twitter feed to enhance spectators’ runner tracking.
Accessible online, the interactive map provides landmark and water point indications for runners’ route orientation and user positions to prevent spectators from getting lost.
Carey Dodd, marketing manager of mapIT, said: “There is a host of helpful information on our map to help runners prepare before the race and to keep spectators on track during the day.”
Twitter feeds will keep watchers updated via social media, while HeliCam footage will present a live display, both linked to the web-based map.
For spectators on the sidelines of the running scene, favourable watching spots are also marked.
Furthermore, a mobile version is also under development for the site.
The Comrades Marathon will take place on Sunday, June 2, in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
