Yahoo!’s Mail Classic will be shut down from today with all users required to move to a newer version of the platform which allows the company to easily update features, place adverts and deal with abuse protection.
A statement from the web giant said: “When you upgrade, you will be accepting our Communications Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. This includes the acceptance of automated content scanning and analyzing of your communications content,” reads a statement from the company.
According to Yahoo!, whereas users can chose not to receive advertisements mail scanning will be compulsory according to the new Communications Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
“You can opt out of interest-based advertising and content, scanning communications content for advertising purposes, the sharing of your information with partners for data matching and appends, and analytics data collection through partner sites altogether using the tools on this page,” reads a further statement.
Yahoo! has set two options for its users who do not want to download the new version. They can either download Yahoo Mail using IMAP or shut down their accounts.
