Etisalat adds Benin to growing list of African operations

Mobile group Etisalat has been granted permission to launch a network in West African country Benin as it further expands its African footprint.

The United Arab Emirates-based company is already operational in 15 African countries, including a growing network in Nigeria which has more than 15 million subscribers, as well as the Middle East and Asia,

Announcing the permit, Etisalat said: “Etisalat Benin strives to pioneer telecommunications services in Benin, an African country with huge potential for future growth and development.”

It added: “The company invests in the future of mobile services technologies that will provide citizens, businesses and communities with the means for economic growth and success.”

Etisalat is also waiting to discover if its bid for Vivendi’s 53 per cent stake in Moroccan network Maroc Telecom has been successful, which would further strengthen its presence on the continent.
