Huawei Ken Hu at 2013 Global ICT Summit
The next 20 years will be characterised by the growth of big data as the next business opportunity, according to deputy chair and rotating chief executive officer (CEO) of Huawei, Ken Hu.
Speaking in Tokyo, Japan, at the ongoing Nikkei 2013 Global ICT Summit, Hu told delegates businesses must proactively carry out ICT infrastructure transformation in regards to the internet to support business transformation.
In his speech, titled ‘The Next Wave of Digital Society’, Hu highlighted four trends of the future to business leaders and entrepreneurs, saying internet will become a fundamental element of every business mindset, while mobility facilitated by technology in the business place will enable flexibility at work.
Another key highlight of Hu’s speech was that borderless enterprises will become an essential form of business operations.
“ICT infrastructure transformation must be positioned as the driving force behind business innovation and growth, not only the tool for enhancing efficiency,” he said.
Hu noted that with the effective use of the internet, cloud computing and big data, society can create a new connected and shared wisdom by leveraging on wisdom from people and machines.
The last trend of the future, according to the Huawei boss, will be that the internet and social media continue to become popular, with behaviours and preferences of consumers coming together, and if harnessed could be used to build successful businesses with enterprises having to look at the market from a global view.
He added: “In the Internet era, the biggest challenge facing traditional businesses is the increased competition based on the Internet. In order to face this challenge, traditional businesses must change their mindset and business concepts. By adjusting their mindset, companies will see fresh opportunities, instead of focusing on future challenges.”
Next generation networks, he said, will shape the future of telecommunication and the company was getting ready to face the competition, especially in 5G research.
“Huawei has established the future-facing 2012 Laboratories, which focuses on next-generation network technologies, including 5G, NG-PON and next generation internet, with the aim of embracing the opportunities and addressing the challenges of a digital society together with customers and partners,” he said.
