Telmap upgrades Navigator app

Intel company Telmap has upgraded its personal navigation app aimed at South Africans, providing smartphone users with a travel, dining and budget guide.

Available on Android, Apple and BlackBerry, the free Telmap Navigator offers voice guidance with GPS navigation to direct users to destinations, including restaurant recommendations and vouchers.

Monetising through native advertisements, the revamped app offers businesses the opportunity to earn with click throughs.

The previous version’s clickthrough rate of between six and eight per cent is predicted to increase with enhanced exposure in the newer version.

Novel marketing options include active 3D icons, clickable widgets, sponsored search results, branded keywords and an advertising car model on the GPS navigation system.

With more than 800,000 users in South Africa, Telmap users are growing with more than 65,000 new users per month.

Gildad Goldshtein, director and country manager at Telmap South Africa, said: “Telmap Navigator is a compelling app for advertisers since it’s used by people who are out and about.

“Its real-time location-based nature means advertisers can engage people when they are in the vicinity of the place of business, exposing relevant and compelling offerings when it’s most relevant to the user.”
