Space technology development at the Ghanaian All Nations University College (ANUC) has encountered a backlash following a recent burglary.
Important documents and computers related to the CANSAT satellite launched late in May by the ANUC’s Intelligent Space Systems Lab.
The stolen items included intelligent components, research findings and a ground station design.
Manfred Quarshie, director of the ANUC Intelligent Space Systems Lab, said the plans and components were “preliminary” and “have little or no effect on the miniature satellite”, Ghana Business News reported.
According to Quarshie, CANSAT is viewed as “a step for Ghana to develop its space technology” as part of moving through the stages like other developing countries.
The US$50,000 project is funded by the independent ANUC resources.
Currently under investigation by the Ghana National Security, the incident is regarded as a setback.
