PesaPay launched in December last year a Mobile location-based app to map and track financial data and information in Kenya. The application, dubbed as Crowdpesa, provides access to information about people, entities and financial services located in various parts of the world.
To date, the platform supports over 5000 records of mobile and financial services that will map consumers to their financial interests from any location.
The application integrates the Ushahidi platform to support their database and the crowd sourcing of data onto the platform. Crowdpesa integrates Geographical information System (GIS) that facilitates the capturing, storage and dissemination of the financial data that is then visually displayed for consumers from the mobile and web interfaces on www.crowdpesa.com.
The platform will provide free apps for mobile devices such as Android, Symbian and S40 that will soon be available for download. Crowdpesa also becomes one of the applications to benefit from the Kenya Open data initiative that was launched by the Kenya Government last year.
According to Product Manager Chris Kakoba, the service that was launched in partnership with iHub Kenya, Ushahidi and Samsung Kenya late last year is set to launch a campaign in conjunction with a local SMS betting company that will help map the distribution points of their outlets. This move will help them make a financial turn and hopefully meet their monetary objectives.
