A multimedia firm behind VideoLan Client (VLC) has announced through its Twitter account its headed to the Android platform.
Although the tweet didn’t have any specifics including when it would be available, this would definitely be a plus for the popular open-source media player.
Reports suggest that there have been knock offs ofVLC player on the android platform but now with this announcement, the mobile video scene is set for a new standard.
VLC earlier last month announced that they had reached 1 billion downloads worldwide, making it the preferred media player.
C-Net describes the software as the best in the world: “It’s not the only option for free video playback, but it’s one of the best.”
Windows Media player is also a favorite but VLC is favored due to its cross-platform nature. It runs on all platforms: Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and Unix. It also has streaming capabilities for both voice and video.
VLC will brace for a huge competition from these other Android media players:MX Player,Winamp andAdobe Flash media player.
