Safaricom to reward Kenya Sevens rugby team

Safaricom is to reward the Kenya Sevens rugby team for reaching the semi-finals in the just completed Rugby Sevens World Cup that was held in Moscow, Russia over the weekend.

The 23 members of the team will receive the BlackBerry 9320 with one year free usage.

Bob Collymore, Safaricom’s chief executive officer (CEO), said the team’s achievements are a source of great national pride which should be appreciated by the nation to enlighten the team.

“When the national side plays at the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2013, they will represent each Kenyan- and their participation therefore is a source of great national pride,” said Collymore.

“We therefore feel that it is our national duty as Safaricom, to appreciate this team which has brought such glory to Kenya, by offering them incentives which we believe will boost their morale.”

The team, which arrived yesterday, received a rousing welcome home with entertainment from traditional dancers at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) before being ferried in a stretch limousine for their breakfast.

Kenya Sevens reached the cup semifinals, where they were eliminated by England, before finally finishing in fourth position after losing to Fiji 5-29. New Zealand secured the Melrose Cup after beating England 33-0.
