ZICTA takes Zambian networks to court

Poor quality of service has landed Zambia’s three network operators in legal trouble, after the Southern African country’s regulator began criminal proceedings against them.

The Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) took the action “to protect public interest” under the Information and Communication Technologies Act of 2009.

The authority said “deteriorating levels of quality of service” was making it difficult to do business in the country and was causing a “public outcry”.

Airtel Network Zambia, MTN Zambia and Zambia Telecommunication Company are the three networks under scrutiny by the regulator.
