Facebook’s new feature allows users to edit comments

Facebook has introduced an “edit option” on their site to allow its users to edit or delete a comment they post.

This feature that allows making changes to the comments on status updates, photos, videos or other content posted on Facebook, will enable users of the social site to edit posted comments, or even change the entire comments in case they post them in a hurry.

Previously, the users had to ignore or delete completely any updates or comments with mistakes or factual errors. To edit or delete a comment, users have to go to the pencil like mark on the right hand corner of the comment and choose either the edit or delete option.

After editing a comment, Facebook shows the edit history. The edit history has a link that shows what was edited to a user’s friends and a Page’s “likers.” This is to avoid confusion in case the comment is totally changed, Facebook says.

Friends also have the privilege to edit a post instead of deleting and starting again. They however cannot receive any notification once edited.
The feature is yet to be launched on the mobile interface and the profile post can’t be edited too. The social network recently enabled smiley faces and emoticons in its Web chat.

Facebook has a total user population of around 860 million worldwide amid competition from other sites like Google+ and Twitter.
The feature is expected to give the giant social networking site an edge as it aims for 1 billion users.
