A Kenyan documentary telling the story of top athlete Geoffrey Kipsang has turned to crowd funding site Kickstarter.com in bid to raise US$27,500.
The Unknown Runner tells the story of 10,000m legend Haile Gebrselassie’s Kenyan pacemaker from his school days until he makes his debut at the Berlin Marathon in 2012.
HumanIPO reported last week Kenyan documentary Slum Art Slam had also turned to kickstarter.com for funding.
The project by Boudewijn de Kemp is meant to tell the story of the pacemaker’s career in athletics with the aim of inspiring other young Kenyans, using the champions as role models.
The project managers say they have made great strides with the project having already collected a host of footage in the various trips between Kenya and Berlin.
Already the project has received 35 backers who have pledged US$1,459 with 11 days left.
Among those who have pledged include two backers who have pledged US$150 and five who have pledged US$100.
Also in the production team for the documentary are Miriam Steinberg (producer) professional filmmakers, designers and copywriters.
The short film, which is set to be released later this year, is currently at post-production stage.
