If you missed on the first and the second round of the Tandaa Grants, your last opportunity might just be around the corner.
The third round of the Tandaa grants might be announced in July or August this year. Tandaa grants is a programme that has been initiated by the Kenya ICT Board to give financial assistance to promising and upcoming technology startups.
So what about happens after the Tandaa grant? “We are currently exploring options for how to continue supporting the tech start-up eco-system,” Kaburo Kaburo Kobia Project Manager, Local Digital Content told HumanIPO.
“The grant was set up to: invest seed funding in tech start ups, promote development of local digital content and provide case studies for financial institutions and private sector to invest in tech start-ups,” she said.
She also said that the Kenya ICT board is commissioning case studies and called on researchers to partner with the board to see ways to improve the grant. Another idea is to seek out private companies to partner with the IT startups to offer mentorship and finance.
“Round 3 will be announced July/August. We are working on implementing some of the recommendations we have received from the public,” Kaburo said. “These recommendations have to be updated in the Grant Manual and approved by World Bank. The current grant process is outlined in Grant Manual developed with the World Bank.”
