South Africa’s social learning platform Together We Pass has overhauled its website to include a wider range of services and collaboration tools.
The site was launched in 2008 as a way of providing support for students and has grown to serve more than 7,000 students and 430 subjects, specifically targeting University of South Africa (UNISA) attendees.
Tabitha Bailey, chief executive officer (CEO) and founder of Together We Pass, said almost 80 per cent of UNISA students drop out of the long distance learning institution before graduating.
“Studies have shown that students who join a study group are three times more likely to pass than those who don’t,” Bailey said.
“The major benefit of joining a study group is being able to gain insights from the wider group by sharing everyone’s skills and knowledge as needed.”
The site gives students access to resources including past exam papers, tutorials and tips as well as discussion forums.
One of the new features of the site is the use of assignment comparison technology, which aims to prevent cheating.
Bailey added: “It shows your answers as a percentage to others, thereby protecting individual answers. Discussions are per question to encourage students to collaborate and engage so that when the real answers are released, students see a report on how they did compared to the real answers, and compared to the class.”
A social networking feature has been added, allowing users to set up profiles as well as an online marketplace for students to sell textbooks and refer friends to the platform.
The site is also offering new subscribers the chance to win an iPad Mini if they sign up.
