Uganda’s NITA programme to cut IT Costs

The National IT Project Management Methodology (NITPMM) programme developed by the National Information Technology Authority Uganda (NITA-U) is set to save the government money by reducing waste.

According to James Saaka, NITA’s executive director, the methodology will work by providing a structured approach for ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to efficiently manage their IT projects and programmes within government.

The Observer reports the methodology will also help the government manage its IT projects from beginning to the end.

“A lot of money, time and resources will be saved by government ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) when NITPMM comes on board,” said Saaka.

In addition to NITPMM, the Ugandan government has seen several other systems meant for the same purpose be successful.

The systems include Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets (PPDA), Result Oriented Management (ROM) and the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS).
