Nedbank has launched a suite of mobile apps to its staff ahead of a major launch that will make the app available to the public and the bank’s customers. The app suite has been in development for the past two years, according to Nedbank.
As HumanIPO previously reported, Mike Brown, Chief Executive of Nedbank, had pushed the launch of what was expected to be a single mobile banking app towards the end of June 2012.
In a statement on Nedbank’s Facebook Page, Mike Brown expressed his excitement about Nedbank’s digital journey saying: “We have built a foundation that enables unrivalled security and on-going app releases to meet customer needs for anywhere anytime banking.”
What makes this launch unique, according to Nedbank, is that it will be available on smartphones as well as a wide range of feature phones.
At the time of launch to the public, the Nedbank App Suite — NedApps — will include a first to market online share trading offering, corporate batch authorizations and business banking password reset capability.
Other apps included will be mobile banking, balance enquiry, payments, transfers, branch locators, forex calculators, and many more.
“The launch of the Nedbank App Suite follows the recent launch of Approve-itTM, which is the best online security currently available in South Africa. Our priority is to make our clients’ digital experience with Nedbank secure and to empower them to do all their transactional banking anywhere, anytime,” added Brown.
The NedApps Suite beta version is only being released to the South African banks staff for now, with the expectation that customers and the public will be able to use it in the near future.
Brown concluded: “In addition to the launch of the Nedbank App Suite, we have built an architecture that enables quick product development and release and have a number of innovative products in the pipeline and I look forward to announcing the details in the coming weeks.”
