The first ever EMC Forum in West Africa was held in Lagos, Nigeria, yesterday, and was attended by stakeholders, senior decision makers and IT professionals drawn from leading organisations across the country.

At the one-day forum attended by more than 500 participants, EMC experts showed how EMC software defined storage as well as tiered storage and Scale-Out NAS, virtualisation and next generation backup solutions can enable organisations to build their IT transformation strategies to drive maximized performance, cost reductions and agility.

Big data, cloud computing, security and trust were the major focus of the forum which EMC’s regional manager for West Africa, Rasheed Jimoh, said the company was glad to bring to Nigeria.

“As the global IT community examines the tremendous benefits of big data, the efficacy of cloud computing and inherent security concerns, there is no better time than now to bring this same conversation to Nigeria,” said Jimoh.

“We are certain that the conversations we have started here will continue to resonate and cause the IT transformation we would like to see in our various industries.”

Patricia Florissi, EMC Sales vice president and global chief technical officer (CTO) and keynote speaker, said Nigeria will benefit immensely from big data analytics.

“While cloud computing offers the promise of transforming IT and significantly lowering operating costs, it is real-time big data analytics that will fundamentally transform businesses across Nigeria by identifying new revenue opportunities through competitive insights and timely decision-making and improved customer experience,” said Florissi.

The event was sponsored by EMC Partners Cisco, VMware, and Accenture, along with EMC Velocity Partners.
