The China-based telecom equipment manufacturer Huawei has announced plans to expand its investment in Russia in a move viewed to catapult the multinational’s global influence.
Through this move, Russia is set to advance its ICT industry.
Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Huawei Founder and CEO, Ren Zhengfei welcomed the opportunity saying Huawei should increase its investments in the country to meet Russia’s national strategy for developing its electronic information industry.
The company has been in the country since 1997 and has largely promotedbusinesses and advancement of Russia’s ICT industry.
Huawei’s influence in ICT is now felt globally. For the last 10 years, Huawei has been in Africa with training centres in Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt and Tunisia.
The universities and training centres have benefited from the company’s mission of ensuring there is growth in technology and telecommunication.
Kenyans have a reason to be proud of its activities; in early January 2010, IDEOS smartphones throughSafaricom were launched into the market.
Huawei estimates a 75 times growth in the next 10 years and mobilebroadband traffic by more than 2,000 times.
Ren said that the key to the development of the telecoms industry is the creation of data pipes that are wide enough to manage huge amounts of data.
In 1987,Ren Zhengfei establishedHuawei Technologies Co. Ltd in China. Since then the company has been offering services in networking and telecommunications equipment.
The company has grown tremendously and is ranked as the largest China-based networking and telecommunications equipment supplier and the second-largest supplier ofmobile telecommunications infrastructure equipment in the world.
