Microsoft Corporation is set to acquire Yammer, a social-networking startup, at US$1.2 billion following a negotiation meeting between the two firms yesterday.
Experts say the move will be a great boost to the firm in targeting social networking site’s users to market its products.
Tech research firm Gartner analyst, Larry Cannell, said: “This acquisition will immediately make Microsoft a strong competitor in the enterprise social market.”
Sacks said when Yammer was started four years ago, the founders had a vision for how social networking could change the way people work.
“Joining Microsoft will accelerate that vision and give us access to the technologies, expertise and resources we’ll need to scale and innovate,” he said.
The company develops, manufactures, licenses, and supports products and services related to computing. It supplies its products globally; many African countries have access to services offered by Microsoft Windows ranging from office application to Skype, which was acquired last year.
Its impact is very positive to Africans since written and oral communication is better and faster. The ICT sector has improved too.
Yammer Inc was established in 2008 and offers social network services. It targets private communication within organization.
It offers services such as administrative controls, date export, networking analysis and customization.
A 2010 a research conducted by TechCrunch indicated more than 3 million users and 80,000 companies worldwide enjoy the services of social networking provided by Yammer.
Microsoft employees will be able to contact their colleagues online, network, chat, post news and share links.
