Should the Democratic Alliance (DA) win the Gauteng province in the 2014 elections, a possible premier candidate, Jack Bloom, will scrap the controversial e-tolling system in the province.
This formed part of his announcement at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg outlining what he would do if he gets the Premiership.
Bloom said along with scrapping e-tolling in Gauteng, he would also abolish blue light brigades (often used by politicians) and he would ensure public funds are not spent on “extravagant cars and corporate credit cards”, the Times Live quoted him as saying.
“As premier of Gauteng, I will ensure real delivery, and a government that is accountable, effective, and free from corruption,” said Bloom.
However, Gwede Mantashe, African National Congress (ANC) secretary general, said there is no chance an opposition party will take over Gauteng in next year’s elections – according to a report by Eye Witness News (EWN).
A Twitter user @Sentletse, claiming to be the self-appointed “Supreme Commander of the Twitter Battalion of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)” also expressed little confidence in Bloom’s success with this tweet:

The EFF is a new political party led by Julius Malema, and is described as a party with socialist ideologies, which has radical economic reforms planned for South Africa should it win a majority of the vote next year.
