South Africa’s third network operator Cell C has claimed to have signed up one million customers in July, although net additions are below 350,000 for the month.
In a statement today, Cell C’s chief executive officer (CEO) Alan Knott-Craig said he was pleased to hit the landmark figure despite the “churn” figures remaining high.
“I am exceptionally proud and excited to announce that for the first time in the history of Cell C we have connected more than one million customers in one month,” Knott-Craig said.
“Last night we broke through the million gross connection barrier bringing our total customer base to over 11.7 million.”
The network’s net additions for the month were 338,000 connections, as of last night (Monday).
Cell C has been linked with potential partnerships or mergers with Telkom and First National Bank (FNB) in the last month, while they have also received another substantial round of investment from shareholders.
