Google finally unveiled its own tablet during the recently held Google I/O developers conference.
The Nexus 7 tablet will be one of the cheapest tablets on the shelves as it will sell for only US$199. This price has however been capped for the North American market and it is yet to be known how much it will retail in other continents.
The Nexus tablet will compete with the Kindle, which is an Amazon book reader. The Kindle is also a 7-inch tablet.
Google’s 7-inch tablet has 280 by 800 display screen, a 1.2 megapixel front camera, and comes with a new Android operating system, Android 4.1 Jelly bean.
It had been rumoured for a while now that Google would release its own tablet. This comes almost a week after Microsoft launched into the tab war with their Surface tablet.
Google also unveiled Nexus Q, a home social streaming device. The device will act as a streaming device similar to the Apple TV.
The announcement of the tablet also coincides with Google Plus’ one-year anniversary, stating that the social networking site now has over 250 million users.
