Online South African news publication News24.com has launched a website to honour people who have passed away.
A joint project of News24.com and parent.com, Remembered.co.za, serves as a space for memories, biographical details and videos to keep the memories of the deceased alive.
Zunaid Parker, business manager behind the site, said: “We believe we have created a very special offering in the South African digital space, a place where those separated by distance can come together to celebrate the life of one who has passed on,”News24.com reported.
South African icons featured on the site include Hansie Cronje, Miriam Makeba and Brenda Fassie.
Aiming to be a useful resource to school pupils, the website gives access to obituaries and other added multimedia material.
Family members can post notices and add pictures, which can also help to inform people of the person’s death.
