Ethiopia will for the first time begin assembling spent toner cartridges, inkjet cartridges and ribbon cartridges.
A new assembly plant, located in the Nefas Silk Lafto Sub District of Addis Ababa, was set up last week in the country.
The plant will recycle the used printing consumables originally manufactured by printing technology and computer hardware firms such as Hewlett Packard, Epson, Canon, Xerox, Dell, Brother Lexmark, and Samsung.
The Toner Assembly and Manufacturing firm will afterwards brand the products as Cartridge King to be sold in Djibouti, Sudan and Congo as well as Ethiopia’s domestic market, according to Jazir Teja, Managing Director of the Company.
About 20,000 cartridges are expected to be produced each month this year for the domestic market.
During the launch, State Minister for Science and Technology,Mahmoud Ahmed Gaas said the factory focuses on improving the standards of the new sector and introduce new products and production techniques hence technology transfer.
According to Teja , the firm will improve the quality of the printing consumables and cause fair pricing for the Ethiopian market.
