New Android Africa Challenge with Courses Competition

The Africa Android Challenge (AAC) is an opportunity to discover the best developers and Android experts on the African continent. The contestants have an opportunity to create innovative applications and produce local “African” content. In addition, they can submit lectures related to Android on the Android Platform via the Google University Consortium Program.

With investors and mentors in technology setting new standards every day in mobile app development, there is no shortage nowadays of events that help developers in the continent challenge each other with their creative applications that solve local problems. The Africa Android Challenge (AAC) is a new challenge for African developers to find better use of local skills and content.

AAC is a direct result of Java User Group (JUG) leaders, GTUG (Google User Group) leaders, and GUS (Google University Consortium) officials networking during and after the last Java One event in November 2011. Although supported by Google, the project is certainly a community event as the agenda of the competition is proposed and defined by the community and for the community.

The event is a 2 round competition allowing participants to present android applications and courses. Finalists in the first round will go on to the second round with the opportunity to improve on their submission. The will also receive an android device each.

According to the agenda, the Challenge was announced December last year with the website for submission of applications and courses open till February 15th 2012. The first round winners will be announced by judges on the 29th of February. The second round will begin in March with the resubmission of the applications and course. Final competition winners will be announced by mid June.
