Telecoms operator MTN Zambia will sponsor the 2012 African cup winners Zambia national soccer team. A total amount of K2.4 billion will be accounted for the Chipopolo alongside the entire 16 teams in the country’s Super Division of Football Association.
The Super Division teams will have K700 million and K500 million for administrative purpose. All the teams, apart from the champions and runners-up, will share K250 million in respect to the league standings.
While the winners of Super Division competition will pocket K250 million, runners up K100 million, footballer of the year K25 million, top scorer K20 million, most disciplined player K15 million as well as coach of the year K 25 million .
With this deal, the league would be more competitive as well as continue providing a good opportunity for young people to explore their talents and soccer development in the country, observes sports analysts.
MTN brands and communication manager Leonard Kawanu, while announcing the sponsorship deal, said: “We would like to see a situation where players from the local league begin to break ground and launch onto the international market and this will only happen if they are motivated enough to play competitively.”
This is a great move by MTN Zambia in supporting sports in the nation.
