Samsung Electronics will give 80 mobile developers US$4,08 million as prize money for its global mobile app developers challenge.
The Samsung Smart App Challenge 2012,open for registration from May till September 30 aims at developing relevant content for users of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Notes.
Developers can register in either the Samsung Apps Super Apps category or the Best S Pen Apps.
The Samsung Apps Super Apps segment will have 30 most downloaded games and 30 most downloaded non-game apps taking home a share of the prize money.
The Super Apps category winners will be decided by the public while the Best S Pen App category comprises 20 innovative applications which experientially use the S Pen. The S Pen App category will have a panel of judges. The list of the categories and amount to be won is listed here.
Apart from money, winners will be given access to a range of Samsung’s platforms to promote their apps like under the Samsung Mobile, Samsung Apps and Samsung Developers platforms.
Craige Fleischer, director of mobile communications at Samsung Electronics in South Africa said; “With the size of prize money and other available promotional benefits, the competition is expected to make Galaxy Tab and GALAXY Note user experience interactive”.
According to Fleischer, the Samsung Smart App Challenge will enable the users of the devices to have a wide range of applications to choose from.”
The Samsung Galaxy smartphones have both the Android marketplace and Samsung App store and therefore open their users to a variety of applications.
