Vodacom has this morning announced the appointment of Shameel Joosub as Vodacom Group Chief Executive Officer to the Vodacom Group Board. He succeeds Pieter Uys who stepped down after almost 20 years with Vodacom including four as a chief executive.
The appointment will take effect from September 1 to ensure a smooth transition and handover.
Joosub currently is the chief executive of Vodafone Spain. He was also previously the managing director of Vodacom South Africa and a director of the Vodacom Board from 2000 to 2010 before his transfer to Vodafone Spain.
His career at Vodacom started in 1994.
Joosub holds a Bachelor of Accounting Science (Honours) from the University of South Africa and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia.

The outgoing chief executive, Uys said: “I have had a fantastic two decades with Vodacom and will cherish many happy memories. I’m hugely proud of our people: together, we have created a powerful and trusted brand at the centre of our customers’ daily lives. It’s now time for change, and I will leave Vodacom confident that the business will prosper under Shameel’s leadership.”
