Telecel Zimbabwe appoints new chief executive

Zimbabwe’s mobile service provider Telecel Zimbabwe has appointed Francis Mawindi as its new chief executive officer. Mawindi, a Zimbabwean, will succeed John Swaim, a U.S.-born Swiss citizen.

Swaim has been the company’s chief since December 2012. He also serves on the company’s board of directors.
It had been reported previously that Swaim had indicated that the next chief executive would be a Zimbabwean national.
In a statement, Telcel said: “Mr Swaim was appointed in December last year, while the board was in the process of recruiting a substantive CEO.”
Mawindi completed his secondary school education at St Ignatius College (Zimbabwe) before graduating at the University of Zimbabwe with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in electrical engineering.
The new chief executive also holds a Graduate Diploma in Marketing and Marketing Management from the European Marketing Confederation as well as a Master of Business Administration in finance from Howard University in the United States.
He has extensive work experience in the telecommunications industry having worked more for than 20 years in the industry. His work experience includes strategic planning, global business development and operations, project management, financial analysis and supply chain management.
He has worked for companies such as France Telecom Orange and Verizon, a US telecommunications giant.
