Coming from the recent Google I/O conference, the company has announced that it would be axing off some of its products.
Change is as good as a beginning and for IT firms they have to let go of old technology and embrace new ones.
Some of the products that Google is letting go include the RSS reader Google IG, the video service Google Video among many others.
Google Video “didn’t make much sense” to the company since it had purchased YouTube, which “does much better.”
Another product set for axing is the Google Mini enterprise site. This site offered an ecommerce platform for goods. An African version would be theGoogle Trader in Kenya, Ghana, Uganda and Nigeria.
Other Google products such as Google Search Appliance, Google Site Search and Google Commerce Search will now accommodate Google Mini functionalities.
Another victim is Google Talk Chatback. “Google Talk Chatback allowed websites to embed a Google Talk widget so that they could engage with their visitors. It’s now outdated, so we’re turning off Chatback and encouraging websites to use the Meebo bar,” the company said.
Google says that Meebo, which Google acquired early last month, will replace its services.
On the other hand, Meebo will be closing some of its services due to this take over, by July 11. The staff will be absorbed into the Google+ team. We are yet to see what the search engine giant will do to the platform.
