Nokia brings in 2 new phones in the Asha brand

Nokia has announced it is expanding its Nokia Asha brand with two new phones, Asha 305 and Asha 202.

Since launching its Asha brand, Nokia has been pushing the qwerty handsets much so in Africa. Just yesterday, the company announced a rap competition to promote the brand.

“The Nokia Asha 202 is great for consumers that value dual-SIM capability on their phones. In addition to using Easy-Swap technology, the Asha 202 has a 2.4-inch touchscreen and alphanumeric keypad that allows the consumer the best of both worlds,” the company said.

“Users are assured of an enjoyable multimedia experience, thanks to a high performing loudspeaker, enhanced stereo FM radio and ringtone tuning,” the Nokia Asha 202 is already available in East Africa.

The Nokia Asha 305 is the first full touch Asha device and features a major update of the Nokia Browser, which uses cloud technology to reduce data usage by up to 90 percent.

The change to host a touch phone within the Nokia brand seems to have been influenced by the recent entries into the market by touch screen phones from Huawei Ascend and Samsung Galaxy Pocket.

Asha 305 features faster webpage load, improved battery life and mobile Internet connectivity. It also comes with 40 Electronic Art games that consumers can download. Games like Tetris®, Bejeweled®, Need for Speed™ and many more are included.

The Asha 305 will be available by the end of July, according to Nokia. The brand will retail at KSh7,700, and its counterpart Asha 202 at KSh6,250
